Victor A. Kormeier, Jr.
VICTOR A. (VIC) KORMEIER, JR. is a Board Certified, Estate Planning and Probate Law Specialist – Texas Board of Legal Specialization. He received his BBA degree from University of Texas – Austin and his JD degree from the University of Texas Law School in 1966. He is a member of the Texas Academy of Probate and Trust Lawyers, the State Bar College, a Certified Public Accountant, a Certified Financial Planner, and serves as immediate past president of the Probate, Trust and Estate Section of the Houston Bar Association. He is also a designated arbitrator with the American Arbitration Association and was named in Texas Monthly as a Texas Super Lawyer for years 2005 through 2011 (Estate Planning/Trusts). This honor is the result of more than 20,000 votes cast by counsel across the state and a Blue Ribbon Panel selection process. Less than 5% of licensed Texas Bar attorneys earned this distinction.
After obtaining his law degree Vic served as an officer in the U. S. Army with a tour of duty in Vietnam. Upon completion of his military service he joined Deloitte, Haskins & Sells (now Deloitte & Touche) as a tax advisor in their Houston office. While with DH&S tax department, Vic had primary responsibility for the firm’s services to the trusts and estates section of The Bank of the Southwest trust department. After several years with DH&S, he joined 3D/International, a large architectural, engineering and project management firm which employed over 700 people worldwide. With responsibility for the non-technical activities of the business including legal, financial, accounting and administrative services, Vic became Chief Financial Officer, General Counsel, Senior Vice President, and a Director. In 1980, he founded Lakor International, Inc. which was involved in real estate development in the Houston area. VALKOR International, Inc. succeeded to the real estate development and management activities of Lakor. Since the mid 1980s, Vic’s law practice has been concentrated in the areas of estate planning, probate, trust, business and individual tax matters. In 1991, Vic formed with Dick Walters the law partnership of Kormeier & Walters, L.L.P. Dick died of cancer in 2011.
Born in Dallas, Texas in 1941, he was raised in Austin and is married to Lucy Caudill Kormeier, MD, an endocrinologist. Their daughter, Elizabeth, is a graduate of Bucknell University with an MBA from Duke University and is married to Thomas A. Howley, a partner with the Jones Day law firm in their Houston office. Their son, Gus, graduated from Pomona College and with an MBA from University of Washington, and is married to Stephanie Fisk. He was the principal systems engineer for Altrec.com in Seattle. Vic has been very active in community and church activities. He has served on the Boards of Trustees for both St. John’s School and Episcopal High School as an officer and trustee. He has served his church, St. John the Divine Episcopal Church, in many ways including the Vestry, Senior Warden, Junior Warden and Treasurer. He has served as President of the Memorial Endowment Fund for his church, Executive Chairman of the Board of Trustees for Episcopal High School and as Executive Chairman of the Episcopal Foundation of the Diocese of Texas.
Vic’s true love is flying, and he received his private pilot’s license in 1960. Since then, he has attained his commercial pilot certificate for single engine land and sea, multiengine land, and instrument airplane along with flight instructor certificate for airplane single engine and multiengine, instrument airplane.
